Few months back, I noticed a screw on the cover came off. It fell into the pot but the screw cap was trapped inside the cover. I left it as it is because it is still functioning like normal. Then, I noticed sometimes there were white particles inside the pot. Everytime I spotted them, I scooped them up but in my heart I felt uncomfortable because I don't know how much of the thing has been dissolved in the water and how much of it has gone into our body.
Two days back, I told hubby about it and I showed him what I scooped up from the thermos. We then decided to buy a conventional flask/thermos instead of an electrical one. The next evening, while I was trying to take the thermos by its handle, this happened..

The whole cover came off.
See the missing screw and the plastic chipping off?
The white particles

So, I wonder is it safe to use the same type of thermos again? My hubby said he wants the same thing because it is very convenient. We still need to make milk for Ethan (when he wakes up in the morning and before he sleeps at night) and hubby likes to drink chinese tea after dinner.

This looks like a Kenwood. Well, ive been using once since bryan was born (3 yrs) so far no problem. and yes its really really convenient.
I use both actually...
I use the electric boiler to boil water... and i switch it off as drinking water once it is cool.
I store hot water in the Thermos.
I don;t like leaving the electric thermos pot on the whole day. Don't use much hot water.
Family First,
Do you switch it off occasionally or leave it running all the time?
Leona,
I'm thinking of that method now but we are so used to the convenience of an electrical thermos pot.
i don't used any electric themos as Ck said waste electric. so we boil water at the stove everynite and store hotwater at flask. when you want to make milk, u will just need little bit of hotwater and the hotwater last this the next morning. get a good flask water la.
do you think the while particles is the melt plastic?
yeah, i think the particles are plastics. i'm using the normal thermos now.
Me too. I will boil water using the electric thermos, then contain the boiled water into 2 water flasks. Power off the electric thermos. The 2 flasks can last for 3 days (Jaiden drinks milk 2 times a day during weekdays and 3 times during the weekends).
I read from some articles saying it's not good to boil water repeatedly. So to my understanding, keep warm may not be good also.
I-Li,
You mean the water can stay warm in the flasks for 3 days? I put the hot water in the flasks and it turn cold in less than 12 hours.
You may check out Coway or Nesh. They have electrical saving hot n cold dispenser with filter system.
